Water and Environment Task Force Meeting
San Francisco District Navigation Program: Value for the Bay
Stu Townsley, Deputy District Engineer for Project Management for San Francisco District, will discuss the current Bay Area U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dredging activity, and explore what the future of the San Francisco navigation program may look like.
The San Francisco District has 13 authorized dredging projects in San Francisco Bay. Dredging supports our regional economy with several hundred billion dollars of direct and indirect economic benefits, and provides for water-based recreation. The average annual cost to the U.S. Treasury is in the range of $50 to $80 million.
Planning for future dredge material management is coupled with local planning efforts for sea-level rise and environmental projects.
