With some of the strongest decarbonization targets in the country 40 percent emission reductions by 2030\, carbon neutrality by 2045\, and net-negative emissions thereafter California continues to pursue innovative policies to achieve ambitious emissions reductions. In 2022 Governor Newsom set Carbon Removal/Carbon Capture targets of 20 million metric tons CO2 equivalent (MMTCO2e) by 2030 and 100 MMTCO2e by 2045. This presentation will include an overview of the technologies involved in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects and an assessment of the CCS opportunities and challenges in California.\n\n\n\nOUR SPEAKER\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Sarah Saltzer is the Managing Director of the Stanford Center for Carbon Storage and is leading the effort to launch a new Carbon Management Initiative at Stanford. She was also recently named to the Biden-Harris Administration's Carbon Dioxide Capture\, Utilization and Sequestration (CCUS) Non-Federal Lands Task Force.
